Transition Xtractive for Prescription Riding Glasses

For some time now, motorcycle enthusiasts have had the same complaints as automobile drivers when it comes to photochromic, or transitional, lenses.

Prescription Riding Glasses with Transition Xtractive

Transition Xtractive for Prescription Riding GlassesYes, conceptually, they make for perfect riding lenses; they automatically darken in response to UV light, always adjusting to compensate for the amount of direct sunlight that hits them. Yet they have two weak points that particularly affect two-, three-, and four-wheeled drivers: They do not darken fully behind a vehicle’s already-UV-protected windshield or windscreen, and even in full sunlight, they do not get as dark as some people prefer.

Some time ago, Transitions®, the company that introduced transitional photochromic lenses to the eyewear industry, addressed the first problem by developing and marketing DriveWear® lenses, which are the first photochromic lenses to react and adjust to both visible and non-visible light. More recently, they’ve responded to the second problem – the one that more specifically targets motorcycle riders, who can be out in direct sunlight for long periods of time – by developing Transitions® Xtractive®.

Just like DriveWear® lenses, Transitions® Xtractive® lenses provide full protection when exposed to any form of exterior light. Xtractive® lenses, however, darken more deeply, making them the darkest photochromic lenses available. Outdoors they will adjust to a darker tint level than any transitional lens to date. Under indoor light, they clear, but not fully; artificial light will trigger a slight degree of lens darkening – enough for comfortable glare protection but not so much that vision is impaired. Additionally, Xtractive® lenses are unaffected by hot weather. Traditional photochromics tend to react slowly when the temperature is high, taking more time to darken and to clear. Transitions® Xtractive® lenses jump right into work regardless of the temperature.

If you’ve been searching for the right kind of prescription lenses for your future pair of cycle goggles or glasses, Xtractive® has come along at just the right time. Motorcycle riders face more direct sunlight than any type of driver, and the darker Xtractive® lenses provide an unprecedented level of light blockage during the day and whenever the sun is on the horizon…and directly in your eyes. They block 100% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays, and are designed to accommodate most prescriptions and frames.

Xtractive® lenses also improve nighttime driving, as the hint of tint will guard against the harsh glare of streetlamps, headlights, and traffic lights without hampering your vision.
